Development Updates

  • August 2025
    • Music & UI:
      • Background music now defaults to 25% volume on first login (saves your preference after that).
      • Help button has been renamed to Adventurer's Guide for clarity.
      • All menu options now glow on mouse hover.
      • Inventory now features tabbed categories for easier management.
    • Mail System:
      • Mail button now glows if you have unread messages. Players are reminded on login and checked again every 5 minutes.
      • Added ability to send multiple of the same item in a single mail by specifying a quantity.
      • Mail form has been made more intuitive with item names and quantities, instead of raw IDs.
    • Marketplace:
      • Stackable items (potions, food, drinks, crafting mats, bandages) can now be listed in x1, x10, x20, or x50 amounts.
      • Purchases arrive via in-game mail; stack purchases are bundled into one mail.
      • Gold from all sales is mailed to the seller.
      • Listings auto-expire after 7 days, with items returned by mail.
    • Morgoth Domain:
      • Morgoth reopened for exploration (still expanding with a cave system, docks, and another town in progress).
      • Monsters across BARP, Hades, and Morgoth now have a chance to drop relics.
      • Monster balancing continues based on player feedback.
    • Leaderboards:
      • Inactive players (30+ days) are now removed automatically from EXP, Skills, and Gold leaderboards.
      • Active players reappear the next time they log in and play.
    • Pets:
      • God-Touched weapons retired from the shop — existing ones remain with their owners.
      • New Pet Companions available: Cat, Dog, Pet Rock, Slime, Bird, Skeleton.
      • Pets can be given custom names and appear on the party menu alongside your character.
    • Bug Fixes & Performance:
      • Fixed a bug where attempting to buy with insufficient gold caused a silent crash.
      • Improved movement/loading across the world map for smoother exploration (slightly longer load times may occur when first entering a new area).
    • June 2025
      • Added support for 2-handed weapons.
      • Elemental damage types implemented (fire, ice, lightning).
      • Discipline stat now grants elemental resistance.
      • New player stat added: Charisma (CHA).
      • Combat text now uses color to differentiate actions.
      • Fishing and mining gold rewards reduced for balance.
      • Additional mining nodes added to Hades.
      • Sanctuary in Hades upgraded with forge, market, and storage access.
      • Fire Elemental Cave dungeon added with themed monsters and loot.
      • Music system added - zones play unique tracks, or a fallback if not yet set.
  • May 2025
    • Fishing System Introduced:
      • Added a fully-featured fishing system to the game with skill-based progression and gold rewards.
      • Implemented Lava Fishing (requires 20 skill) and Sand Fishing (requires 50 skill).
      • Added anti-macro detection to prevent automated fishing behavior.
      • Fishing skill now increases with gold or has a 1% chance to improve per catch.
      • Weekly Fishing Contest added - ends every Sunday at midnight. Top 3 longest catches earn 1000, 500, and 250 gold.
    • Trainer Improvements:
      • All trainers (including Fishing, Sword, Spellcasting, etc.) now clearly display the gold cost to train your skill.
    • Guilds & Skills:
      • Warrior Guild introduced with four skills: Bandage, Double Hit, Shield Bash, and Coup de Grace.
      • Bandage skill now requires Bandages, which are sold by the town healer NPC.
    • Equipment & Shops:
      • Equipment screen now displays WC (Weapon Class) and AC (Armor Class) for all gear slots.
      • When purchasing gear, WC/AC stats are now previewed before buying.
      • Items now support custom icons shown in inventory.
      • Consumables can now be bought in stacks of 1, 5, or 10 from shops.
    • User Interface Enhancements:
      • Added a Logout button to the main command menu.
      • Submenu frame now supports scrolling when content overflows.
    • Map & Frame Fixes:
      • Resolved a long-standing bug preventing the map from rendering on login due to a missing global refresh() function.
      • Game loader now waits for the frame to finish initializing before redrawing tiles and player icon.
    • Leaderboards & Balance:
      • Expanded Top 100 leaderboards to include all skill categories and gold rankings.
      • Further balancing of monster stats and WC/AC progression for high-level areas.

    • Improved character creation and registration process, reducing time for setup.
    • Fixed layout and image issues on the character edit page, added new sprites.
    • Updated 'ScreenShots' page and added new images.
    • Fixed issues with Chrome refresh/logout behavior and cleaned up legacy code.
    • Introduced new sidebar sections: News and Links.
    • Created 'Thanks.html' and 'Updates.html' pages from existing templates.
    • Email System:
      • Replaced Gmail SMTP with in-house SMTP through barponline.
      • Configured email system for internal domain-based email addresses.

    • Legacy Code Updates:
      • Updated the game image frame and fixed NPC conversation frame to support modern browsers.
      • Reworked legacy code to improve compatibility with Chrome and cleaned up deprecated methods.
    • Monster Definitions & EXP Adjustments:
      • Updated monster list and stats; adjusted EXP and gold drop values.
      • Fixed XP reward scaling for consistency with monster difficulty.
    • Registration System Enhancements:
      • Added email-based registration code and activation link.
    • Combat & Monster List Balancing:
      • Added new monsters and balanced their strength for a smoother difficulty curve.
